As part of our ongoing effort to improve our fund raising, the Pastoral Council has developed a survey to help plan fund raising events for our parish. A copy of the survey is enclosed with this bulletin. It is also available online at our website or link directly to the survey by typing in:  We ask everyone to complete the survey. The results will help us make better decisions regarding fund raising events in the parish.

Next weekend, our parish will accept donations for the Catholic Communications Campaign. These offerings help communicate the Gospel through Catholic social media activities and enriches our faith through podcasts, television, radio and print media. Half of all proceeds remain in our diocese and support local needs. Please be generous.

This weekend we begin the nominating process for new members of our Pastoral Council. This year, we will be electing four members to our Pastoral Council for a two year term beginning January 1, 2019. Application forms are available in the Book Room and will be accepted through November 4, 2018. Voting will begin November 18th and conclude December 2nd. Any member of the parish, age 16 and older, with a few exceptions, eligible to run for a seat on the Pastoral Council. We invite you to seriously consider serving on this important advisory body in our Parish.

Our Eighth Annual Clambake/Steak Bake/Autumn Raffle will take place on Saturday, October 27th, beginning after the 5:30 Mass in our upper hall. Raffle tickets are now available at the back of the Church. All parishioners are asked to pick up their envelope with Raffle tickets, as this will save us the cost of mailing them to everyone.
This year we have a new caterer and are able to lower the prices and improve the quality of our food. Dinner tickets are now available after all the Masses at the main entrance to the church and in the hall after the 10:00 Mass. They can also be purchased during the week at the rectory during business hours. Ticket prices are: Clambake - $30, Steak-bake - $35, extra dozen clams - $10. In addition to great food, there will be plenty of refreshments, a basket auction, split raffles, and much more.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS to help with this project: to set up, clean up, bake, and help in other ways. Please sign up in the church’s main entrance to help us out. We look forward to seeing everyone on October 27th.
PROGRAM BOOK Again this year, we are printing a program book for our Fall Fund-Raiser. Parishioners, Parish Organizations, and businesses are invited to advertise or send their greetings showing support for our Parish. An ad can be placed in the book for as little as $10. Ad forms are in everyone’s ticket envelope. Additional forms are available at the back of the church. Everyone is invited to participate.

Last weekend we announced that the Mass of the Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated here on Sunday, October 14th at  12:00 noon. Many in the parish may not understand this sacrament very well. In the “old days” it was called “Extreme Unction” and was given when someone was at the point of death. The teaching today is different.

The teaching we follow today is based on the Letter of St. James in the New Testament. In the letter, St. James says the sick are to be anointed in order to raise them up and save them. So the Church teaches that great care and concern should be taken to see that the faithful whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age, receive this sacrament.

The sacrament of Annointing of the Sick may be given to a person before surgery, and elderly people who have become weakened even though no serious illness is present. Sick children may be annointed if they have sufficient use of reason to be strengthened by the sacrament. If the sick person recovers after being annointed and later on falls ill again, or if during the same illness the person’s condition becomes more serious, the sacrament may be repeated. Although the decision to receive this sacrament is left up to each individual, the faithful should be anointed when the time is right and the sacrament should not be delayed.

In the instruction on this sacrament, the Church reminds all of us that those who are seriously ill need the special help of God’s grace in this time of anxiety, “lest they be broken in spirit and, under the pressure of temptation, become weakened in their faith.” So through the sacrament of anointing, Christ strengthens the faithful who are afflicted by illness or injury, providing them with the strongest support.

I urge everyone to take some time over the next few weeks to seriously consider whether or not they will make use of the opportunity to receive this sacrament.

God Bless ! Fr. Joe Bacevice

We welcome into the Christian Community and our parish Gweneth Faye Piotrkowski, daughter of Robert and Justine (nee) Roth. She was baptized here last Sunday.

We ask you to remember in your prayers the soul of Josephine Leufkins who died last week. May she have eternal rest in the peace of God’s kingdom.

We will celebrate the Mass of the Anointing of the Sick on Sunday, October 14, at 12:00 noon. We encourage our older members and those with chronic illnesses to participate at that Mass and receive this important Sacrament of healing.
