A few weeks ago, I wrote
about the work we were doing to complete a lease on our
school building. That process is nearing completion. All
we are waiting for now is the signatures to make this
project a reality. Our school building will once again
be used for what it was intended: a school. We are the
home of Lakeshore Intergenerational School, which will
open for the school year in August, 2014.
With a new tenant, we
will see changes here at St. Casimir. Most notable, this
summer there will be work done on the school building. A
new roof will be going up over the gym, a new heating
system will be going into the building, and many changes
will be taking place inside the building. You will see
changes when you go into the building for
Sunday
coffee.
Our organizations and
the parish will have use of the building outside of
school hours. So the Lithuanian School will continue to
meet on Saturdays, the Svyturys dancers will continue to
rehearse in the gym, and the scouts will continue to
meet in the gym and cafeteria on Mondays. Our smaller
groups and organizations such as the Holy Name Society,
the Senior Scouts, Lithuanian Pre-School, and Adult
Lithuanian Studies will move to our house on Marcella
(18021 Marcella Rd) for their meetings.
With this
change, as with any change, we give things up and we
gain things. What we are giving up is exclusive use of
the school building and storage. What we are gaining is
a tenant committed to education and our neighborhood,
and we are gaining much needed funds to make
improvements to the rest of our campus and put ourselves
in a position to meet the financial challenges into the
future.
Once the lease is
signed, the Finance Council and I will schedule a "town
hall" meeting to answer your questions regarding this
matter.
God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice
ORDINATIONS
This
weekend, Bishop Lennon ordained six men as priests in our
diocese. Congratulations to Father Matthew Byrne, Father
Gustavus Cole, Father Christopher Cox, Father Scott
Goodfellow, Father Ryan Mann, and Father Timothy Roth. May
God be with them as they begin a lifetime of service to the
people of our Diocese.
FINANCE COUNCIL
Father Bacevice has appointed Patricia Campbell to the
Parish Finance Council. She joins Aura Jucaitis, Alicemarie
Egan, David Oligny, and
Josephine Nampewo. We thank Patricia for her commitment
to service to the Parish. The role of the Finance Council is
to advise the Pastor on all financial matters in the parish,
work with him to set a budget for the parish, and review the
financial transactions of the Parish.
ALTAR SOCIETY
Those
who ordered flower and vegetable plants are asked to pick
them up after all the Masses this weekend. We thank all who
supported this fund raiser. All proceeds go to the parish. |
OFFICE SUMMER HOURS
Beginning this week and through the
end of September, our Parish Office will be closed on
Wednesdays and Saturdays. All other parish functions
will continue as usual. For any emergencies, such as for a death
or anointing call, please call the main parish number and then
follow the recorded instructions.
MEMORIAL DAY
Monday, May 26th is
Memorial Day. Again this year, our Catholic War Veterans Post
613 will have their annual Memorial Day commemoration here at
St. Casimir, beginning at 8:30am
with a service at the Freedom Memorial in our Neff Road parking
lot, followed by Mass at 9:00am.
The commemoration will conclude with breakfast in our lower
hall. All are invited.
CATHOLIC WAR VETERANS
Post 613 of the Catholic War
Veterans will be distributing Memorial Poppies at all the Masses
next weekend. Proceeds go to fund their programs which benefit
Veterans in need, especially those who are hospitalized. Please
accept a poppy and make a generous donation to our Catholic War
Veterans. Also next weekend, they will be inviting new members
to join. Anyone who has served in the military is eligible to be
a member. Please consider joining this year.
OUR PARISH WEBSITE
We
invite everyone to visit our new and improved parish website:
www.saintcasimirparish.org
and see what we have done. It is just in its early stage of
development. Right now we are posting our weekly bulletin, our
monthly Ministry of Praise newsletter, our schedule of
events, as well as links to various religious and Lithuanian
sites that would be of interest to the parishioners. We hope to
eventually have all our parish organizations have a page on the
site. We welcome your comments and suggestions. We thank Amanda
Muliolis for all of her work in setting up and maintaining the
site.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES NEWS
We are happy to report that as
of April 30th, members of our Parish pledged or
donated $11,410 to the 2014 Catholic Charities Appeal.
Sadly though, only 20% of our
parishioners contributed or pledged. Our parish goal this year
is $11,843, so we are at 96% of our goal or $433 short of our
goal. Last year, we exceeded our goal. To make a pledge or a
donation to Catholic Charities, contact Father Bacevice.
CHILD’S GATE TO LEARNING

Lunches must be picked up on Sunday, June 1st
after the 10:00 Mass. Cash and check donations will also
be accepted. To order a lunch, make a donation, or for more
