Saint
Casimir Parish
January 17 - 18, 2015
John the Baptist said,
“Behold the Lamb of God,”
and two of his disciples
left to follow Jesus. Jesus
then asks them one of his
probing questions: “What are
you looking for?” As often
happens in John’s Gospel,
the question does not get a
direct answer. Their reply
indicated they needed to
spend time with him. They
asked: “Teacher, where are
you staying?” Jesus’
response was as open then as
it is now: “Come and you
will see.” They stayed the
day and perhaps the night.
Whatever was said, it was
enough for Andrew to get his
brother Simon the next day
and take him to Jesus, who
then immediately changed his
name to Peter.
Encountering and
spending time with Jesus
usually brings change. At
every Mass we hear: “Behold
the Lamb of God” before
Communion. We can hear it as
an invitation to stay with
him, to listen for how he
might speak to us, how he
might name us “Beloved,”
“Brother,” or “Sister,”
“Friend,” or “Disciple”.
Psalm 95 advises: “If
today you hear his voice,
harden not your hearts.”
Even better, follow the
advice Eli gave Samuel and
say, “Speak, for your
servant is listening.”
Are you willing to hear
the Lord’s voice? Are you
willing to tell him what you
are looking for?
God Bless! Fr. Joe

DAY OF PRAYER:
Thursday,
January 22nd is the anniversary of the Supreme
Court’s decision legalizing abortion. The bishops of the
United States have declared this to be a day of prayer ”For
the Legal Protection of Unborn Children.” All are asked to
offer prayers that all life be protected, from the moment of
conception to natural death.
CHRISTIAN UNITY WEEK
The week of January 18–25, is
proclaimed by the Church as the week of Prayer for Christian
Unity. Our prayers this week reflect our Lord’s prayer that
all of us may be one.
3rd ANNUAL CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL
Saturday
and Sunday, January 24-25, after
all the weekend Masses,
the Altar Society invites everyone in the parish to the
lower hall to savor a hearty bowl of soup (your choice of
two kinds) with bread, and to spend some time with your
fellow parishioners. Eat in, or take a container home. Adult
donation is $5, children under - $2. Proceeds go to the
Altar Society operating fund for 2015 and are used to
purchase needed items for the Church.
FLU SEASON
We are getting to the worst
part of the annual influenza (flu) season, with many people
succumbing to the virus. The flu virus is an irritation for
many, but for our elderly, it can be dangerous. During this
winter season, if you are feeling ill, please do not drink
the Precious Blood from the chalice at communion time. The
chalices are thoroughly cleaned after each Mass and our
communion ministers are instructed to use hand sanitizer
both before and after distributing communion. We urge
everyone to take the proper steps to stay healthy during
this winter season.
