RETROUVAILLE WEEKEND

Someone once said “Marriages are made in heaven, but they sure take a lot of work on earth.” Have you become so distracted by outside pressure that you neglect your spouse? The Retrouvaille program can help you put your troubled marriage back on track. This program is supported by the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, but it is open to couples of all faiths. The next Cleveland Retrouvaille weekend will be held on September 9–11. A registration fee of $150 is required to confirm your reservation. For more information, or to register, call Marce or Li Gliha at 1-800-470-2230, or go online to: www.helpourmarriage.org Your call will be kept in complete confidence.

BECOME A HOSPICE VOLUNTEER

Hospice is a philosophy of care, not a place. We care for patients wherever they call home/ as a vital part of our team, volunteers come from all walks of life and have a variety of skills talents and abilities. Opportunities to serve are diverse, from running errands to meal preparation. Volunteers with special training are always needed: attorneys, licensed hair dressers, massotherapists, pet therapy dogs and their trainers. Training is provided. To become a volunteer or for more information, call 216-255-9090 or visit: www.hospicewr.org.

THE FEST

As the summer season begins, mark your calendar for the highlight of the summer season - The FEST. On Sunday, August 7th, from 12noon until 10pm join together with thousands from across our diocese for a day of faith, family and fun. The 16th Annual Catholic Family FESTival will be held on the grounds of the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe. The FEST features great Christian artists: Newsboys, Michael W. Smith, Matthew West, and Lauren Daigle, and has engaging activities and displays for the entire family. The FEST is free and open to all. The day concludes with an inspiring outdoor Mass at 8pm. It’s the highlight of summer, everything that your family needs for a great family day. For more information, go online to: www.theFEST.us

Father,

Thank you for your grace and mercy.

Give me the strength and desire

         to extend that same mercy

to those in my life who have hurt me.                                               Amen.

After two years of planning, Cleveland is ready to welcome the Republican National Convention which begins on Monday. Hosting the convention gives us an opportunity to showcase our city to the nation and to the world.

The region is expecting 50,000 guests this week – delegates and alternates, elected officials from around the country, worldwide news media, officials from the Republican party along with a host of others working to put on the convention. The city also expects that many thousands of people will be coming to downtown Cleveland to exercise their First Amendment rights and protest the party candidates, the party platform or anything else they choose to protest against.

As one of two convention host cities this year (next week Philadelphia will host the Democrat Party Convention), we are in a unique position to witness the convention process up close, both inside the convention hall and out on the street. Given the societal tensions in our country this year, both racial and ideological, there is the potential for violence.

It is my prayer that this coming week will be peaceful. Let us all pray that the different groups coming here will be respectful of each other, that our law enforcement and security people will be vigilant to prevent any form of violence or terrorism, and that they may be kept safe from harm as they carry out their tasks.

                                                                       God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice

HOLY NAME SOCIETY

Our Holy Name Society (HNS) is pleased to invite the entire parish to attend the Holy Name Picnic and Cookout on Wednesday, July 27th, from 5:00-8:00 pm in the back yard of the convent. Hot dogs, burgers, snacks and soft drinks will be served. Last year, we had live entertainment which might be repeated this year. There is no cost for the picnic as the HNS underwrites the entire cost. In case of rain, the food will be served in the lower hall. Come meet fellow parishioners and learn about the Holy Name Society.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Our next Pancake Breakfast will be on Sunday, August 14th, from 8:30am to 1:30pm. Tickets are now available after the weekend Masses at the main entrance to the Church, in the lower hall after the 10:00 Mass and at the Rectory during the week. Adult tickets - $7, and children 12 and younger - $4.  Save $1 by purchasing your tickets early. All proceeds benefit the parish.
