THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW: Did you know that on a average week with the COVID pandemic, about 200 people come into our church building.  When you come to Church whether it is for Sunday Mass or a weekday Mass, for a wedding or for a funeral or a baptism, what do you expect when you walk in?  Most would say a comfortable, clean church.  Did you ever look at the little things when you come in?  Go into a church pew, there is no clutter and the pews are sanitized.  The floor is clean and dry.  There are no burned out lights.  The sanctuary is clean and decorated for the appropriate liturgical season.  Our church linens are changed and cleaned regularly.  Fresh candles are put in the shrines for those who light devotional candles.  All these things that we take for granted are maintained on an almost daily basis.  This work, like so much other work, is done by our employees and dedicated volunteers.  Mike our maintenance man, takes care of the heavy cleaning in and around the church.  The other work is done all by volunteers.  Marija Bartkus, Faye Roth, and Jackie Caruso-Taylor take care of much of the other work.  When major celebrations come like Christmas and Easter, more volunteers, especially members of the Altar Society come out to help.  In addition to these volunteers, Joe Koeth, Susan Thomas, Tony Balas, Bob Kirchner, Tim Loehman and Algirdas Matulionas stay after Mass every week to sanitize the pews, pick up papers and look for items left by people to put in the lost and found.  These people do a lot to make sure that every time you come to St. Casimir’s, you will have a clean, comfortable and safe place to spend time in prayer and in public worship.  When you see our volunteers offer them a word of thanks.  Also, we are always looking for additional volunteers to help with this work.  If anyone is interested in helping out, let me know what you would like to do, and I will put you in touch with the right person.

CONSECRATED LIFE

Tuesday, February 2ND, we celebrate World Day for Consecrated Life.  We recognize and give thanks for those who have consecrated their lives to God and Church through vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.  The consecrated life is one way that women and men live out their baptismal commitment as followers of Jesus.  Please pray for all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life, and be sure to thank them on their special day.

ST BLAISE DAY

Wednesday February 3RD is the Feast of St. Blaise, the date throats are traditionally blessed.  The ritual “Book of Blessings” states that the blessing “if offered within Mass, may be prayed after the general intercessions or may take the place of the final blessing.  If for pastoral reasons, each individual cannot be blessed... a priest or deacon may give the blessing to all by extending hands, without crossed candles, over the people while saying the prayer of blessing.”  The US Bishop’s Conference Committee on Divine Worship suggests that the current circumstances of the global pandemic would be sufficient pastoral reason to avoid administration of the blessing to individuals.  This year, the prayer of blessing will be given only on Wednesday, February 3RD at the 7:30 Mass.

FROM RIGHT TO LIFE

“The right created by the Supreme Court in Roe is a constitutional right of some human beings to kill other human beings.  I do not mean for my description to be provocative, but simply direct – blunt about facts.  One need not presume that the human fetus has a right not to be killed in order to recognize that, as a descriptive matter, Roe creates a right for one class of human beings to kill other human beings.” (University of St. Thomas Law professor Michael Paulson)

LITHUANIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY

The 103RD anniversary of Lithuanian Independence will be on Tuesday, February 16TH.  We will remember this anniversary at the 11:00 Mass on Sunday February 14TH.  All are invited to participate.

PASTORAL COUNCIL

Did you know that our Parish Pastoral Council has been meeting monthly during this pandemic?  The Council meets on Zoom on the first Tuesday of each month.  The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 2ND.  If anyone in the parish has an issue or a concern to bring before the Council, please contact any member of the Council or Father Bacevice before the meeting.
