June 14-15, 2014

This weekend we remember the 74th Anniversary of the Occupation of the Baltic countries and the 73rd Anniversary of the Mass Deportations of the Lithuanians, Latvians and Estonians from their native homelands by the Soviet Union at the beginning of World War II.

As a community, we will remember the victims of these tragic events with an Ecumenical Prayer Service, in English, at the Latvian Lutheran Church (corner of Andrews Road and Detroit Ave., Lakewood) at 2:00  this afternoon. Rev. Dr. Sarma Eglite of the Latvian Lutheran Church will be the presiding minister; I will be the homilist.

All are invited to participate in this prayer service, which will be followed by refreshments and fellowship in their lower hall afterward, along with a speaker and entertainment.

This event is sponsored by the Baltic American Committee of Cleveland. I invite everyone in the Parish to take part in this commemoration.

                                               God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice

PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN

The Diocese of Cleveland’s "Protecting God’s Children" program is a continuing effort to instruct and inform everyone about the protection of children from sexual abuse. To report any past or present suspected inappro-priate behavior toward children by priests, deacons, religious, lay ecclesial ministers, or personnel associated with the Church, contact the Diocesan Response Service office at 216-334-2999 or e-mail: response_services @dioceseofcleveland.org. Reports of suspected abuse will be made to the Public Children Services Agency (PCSA) or a police department where the child resides or where the abuse is believed to have occurred.

See www.clevelanchildprotection.org , for the listing on the home page, of the names and telephone numbers of the PCSA in all eight counties of our Diocese, along with additional information about safe environment programs and procedures.

THANK-YOU

Thanks go to the members of our Altar Society for con-ducting our Spring Flower and Plant Sale. The proceeds from this project were donated to the Parish. Last week, the Altar Society presented to the Parish a check in the amount of $1,011.00. May God bless all of you for your generosity and for the beautiful work you do decorating our Church.

OUR MARCELLA HOUSE NEEDS A NAME

Now that we are beginning to move organizations out of the school building to their new home at 18031 Marcella, we need to give the house a name. We will have a contest to name the house. The name should reflect who we are as a parish and the use we are giving to the house. The name should also be easily adapted to both English and Lithuanian usage. (Diocesan restrictions do not allow us to name the house after a person.) The contest is open to any parishioner. Names may be sub-mitted to Father Bacevice through mail, e-mail, or placed in the collection basket on Sunday. Be sure to include your name and address with your submission. The prize for the winning name will be a $100 donation to the parish organization of the winner’s choice, and a $50 prize to the winner. The Parish Pastoral Council will decide the winning entry at their September meeting. All entries must be received by September 1st.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

"Touch our world one child at a time." Today more and more children find themselves homeless. "Blessing House" a crisis center for children in the Cleveland area, provides children a safe and loving environment until they can go home. The Sisters of Notre Dame invite single women ages 18-35 to volunteer at Blessing House July 14-19, 2014. For more information, contact Sr. Kathleen Hine, SND at 216-486-5555 or at khine@ndecc.org Online pre-registration is available at www.sndchardon.org

OUR PARISH WEBSITE

We invite everyone to visit our new and improved parish website: www.saintcasimirparish.org Although it is still being developed, we are already posting our weekly bulletin, our monthly Ministry of Praise newsletter, our schedule of events, as well as links to various religious and Lithuanian sites that would be of interest to the parishioners. In time we hope to have all our parish organiza-tions have a page on the site. We welcome your comments and suggestions. We thank Amanda Muliolis for all of her work in setting up and maintaining the site.
