January 31 - February 1, 2015

Winter is a difficult time for us, especially as we get older. Snow, sleet, freezing rain and ice made getting around difficult and many times dangerous. Coming to church, especially here at St. Casimir’s can be a real challenge. We do all we can to clear ice and snow from our parking lots and sidewalks, but sometimes snow and sleet come during Masses and make our parking and walking surfaces very slippery. Very cold weather is just as dangerous as very hot weather. Over the years we have spent a lot of money upgrading our heating systems to provide a comfortable environment for worship and social activity, but sometimes the outside temperature is just too cold for some. So we ask everyone to use care and good judgment when coming to Church on Sunday.

Also, being inside during the cold months makes spreading viruses very easy. The flu virus is particularly bad this winter as is the outbreak of norovirus (stomach flu). Be sure to “cover your coughs” and wash your hands frequently. During Mass, when it’s time to offer a sign of peace, a friendly nod and smile to your neighbor is a good way to replace a handshake. Though we clean our communion vessels after each use, if you are showing symptoms of a cold or flu virus, do not drink out of the communion chalices. Let’s do what we can to keep each other healthy this winter.

                                                       God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice

REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS

We ask you to remember in your prayers the following who have died: Andrew Jurek, Poldi Bojc, Donatas Nasvytis, and Joseph Monaco. May they have eternal rest in the peace of God’s Kingdom.

COLLECTION FOR EL SALVADOR MISSIONS

This weekend, we will accept donations to support our missions in El Salvador. For the past 51 years, our diocese has maintained a presence in El Salvador with priests, religious men and women and lay volunteers. Currently we have three priests serving there. Last year, our parishes collected $132,475 to support these missions along with missions in 23 other countries in Latin America. The cost to maintain the missionaries is $188,000. The Bishop does ask that everyone be generous in supporting our Missionaries in El Salvador.

ALTAR FLOWERS

We thank Ingrida and Kestutis Civinskas for their donation for altar flowers. The flowers decorating the altar this week were given in loving remembrance of Leokadija and Vytautas Civinskas.

We remind you that the Altar Society accepts donations for flowers all year long. If you would like to honor your loved ones or have a special occasion, simply fill out a donation sheet (they are on the bulletin tables) or contact one of the Society members.
