WE INVITE YOUR PARTICIPATION
IN LIGHTING UP THE CHURCH

On several occasions, it has been brought to our attention that our Church is poorly lit. This is not something new, as it has been a problem since the Church was built. However, today’s new lighting technology can remedy this situation.

Father Bacevice and the Pastoral Council would like to form a committee of interested parishioners to look at various options, decide on what is best for our Church building, raise the necessary funds, and arrange to have the new lighting installed. Those interested are asked to contact either Fr. Bacevice or Ted Kowalski.

              PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE

OF YOUR FELLOW PARISHIONERS

On Sunday we have three Masses here at 8:00, 10:00 and 12:00. We once again remind those who are spending time after the 10:00 Mass and will still be here at 11:45, to please park in the Marcella Road parking lot so those arriving for 12:00 Mass have a place to park.

Also, we remind everyone who uses our parking lots to not block the entrances to the parking lots, or buildings, and not to park on the sidewalks. Beginning this weekend, those who do, will be ticketed and towed

HOME MISSIONS

There are many places right here in the United States and in its overseas dependencies where the Church is poor, the communities are scattered, and priests are few. Money given to the Catholic Home Missions Appeal helps Catholic communities across America survive and thrive by underwriting evangelization, religious education, education for future priests, training for lay ministers, and poor parishes that would have to close their doors without outside help.

The Catholic Home Missions Appeal helps strengthen the Catholic Church at home. More than 92 cents of every dollar contributes goes directly to the missions. We will be accepting donations for this appeal next weekend. Please use the envelopes provided.

NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

Many children are being trafficked for forced labor and domestic work, to be child soldiers and for begging, but most children are trafficked for sexual exploitation. There is a demand for younger and younger victims worldwide from customers in the growing global sex industry. Pray for the children of the world. Learn more by accessing the website: sistersagainsttrafficking.org

The Fourth Sunday of Easter each year is known as Good Shepherd Sunday and is the day of prayer for vocations. The oldest image of Jesus found in the early Church is the image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd carrying home on his shoulders a lost sheep. I once saw a wood carving of the Good Shepherd with Jesus having a smile on his face. The joy of the Good Shepherd was obvious.

Jesus speaks of Himself as the Shepherd and he makes the distinction between the Shepherd and the hired hand. The Shepherd will lay down his life for his sheep, while the hired hand will flee danger.

Jesus uses this same image when he commissions St. Peter to lead the Church. From the very beginning of Christianity, the image of the Shepherd is used both for our Savior and for the clergy. These images are evident today.  We call the Pope the Shepherd of the Universal Church, our Diocesan Bishops are called shepherds and the symbols of their office include the shepherd’s crosier. Leaders of parishes are called “pastors” which call to mind the ancient symbol of the shepherd.

So it is appropriate to take this day and pray for vocations to the clergy, both the religious and secular. Clergy in consecrated life are the bishops and priests who are members of religious orders (Pope Francis is a Jesuit) while others like Bishop Lennon are members of the secular clergy. The Lord has called each Bishop, Priest and Deacon in a specific way to serve the Church. Members of both the clergy and the faithful are called to support our clergy through prayer and to pray that more will receive the call to serve as members of the clergy.

In our parish, we also offer prayers that our parishioner Christian Raddell, who is completing his third year of study to become a priest for the Diocese of Cleveland will continue his journey of discerning his call to be a priest to serve our diocese.
Let us all continue to pray for an increase in vocations and to support our priests, bishops and deacons in their vocations, and encourage our seminarians to continue their journey following their call of ordained ministry

.

                                                                          God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice
