COLLECTION FOR THE CHURCHES
IN EASTERN EUROPE

Next weekend we will be accepting offerings for our annual collection to support the Churches in Eastern Europe.  The Lithuanian Church receives funds from this collection, and the Lithuanian Bishops have written us to ask you to be generous.

THANK YOU

Last Monday, our Parish hosted the Collinwood Cluster Mass. This was the best attended Cluster Mass that I have seen since my first Lent here at St. Casimir’s in 2010. Thank you to Ingrid Civinskas and all the volunteers who worked with her to organize and host the social after Mass. When I first came here, I was told that this parish was known for their hosting and preparing this event. Again this year, you made sure we did keep up our tradition of our excellence. The comments I heard from our guests was all very positive. I also want to thank our Lithuanian and English singers for the beautiful music at the Mass. This was truly a beautiful and meaningful celebration.

ST. CASIMIR BREAKFAST

Because of scheduling conflicts, we have had to cancel our St. Casimir Feast breakfast. Many of our parishioners will be in Toronto on March 4th for Canada’s celebration of the 100th Lithuanian Independence Day. During the past few weeks that we had tickets for sale, none were purchased. Our next pancake breakfast will take place this fall.

RIGHT TO LIFE

The “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” - also known as Micah’s Law in honor of a baby who survived birth at 22 weeks - bans abortion after 20 weeks.  Sixteen states have already enacted similar legislation.  During the debate that which led to House passage of the bill on October 3, Rep. Sean Duffy of Wisconsin argued, “when you look at these little babies being dismembered, feeling excruciating pain, if we can’t stand to defend these children, what do we stand for in this institution?” (LifeNews.com. 10/15/17) For those who want to participate more fully in the pro-life movement, see the bulletin insert Bringing America Back to Life.

PRAY FAST GIVE

This Second Sunday of Lent takes us on a Journey. Jesus take Peter, James and John up a mountain to pray. Arriving there, they – and we – get a glimpse of the glory that Jesus set aside when becoming one of us. More importantly, they – and we – hear God speak about who Jesus is and who we are to be.

Jesus is the Beloved Son who lives in intimate relationship with the Father and we must listen to him. This glimpse of glory encourages us as we enter more deeply into the season of Lent, a time to turn toward God, to open our hearts, so that God can enter our lives more completely and make us more fully a people of the covenant that began when God called Abram to leave everything. Because Abram trusted in God’s promises, he became the father of a great nation.

We are to trust in the promises God makes to us through Jesus by listening and obeying his words, thereby becoming beloved sons and daughters. “Do not be afraid,” Jesus tells us. Are you?

God Bless ! Fr. Joe Bacevice

PLEASE PRAY:

We ask you to remember in your prayers the soul of  Martina Mog and Felix Radvilavicius, who died last week and were buried from our parish. May they have eternal rest in the peace of God’s kingdom.

CLUSTER MASS

The next Collinwood Cluster Mass will be on Monday, February 26, at 7:00pm at St. Mary Parish on Holmes Ave. Following Mass all are invited to their Parish Hall for food and fellowship. We encourage members of our parish to participate in this worthwhile Lenten program in our community.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Every Friday at 7:00pm during Lent, we pray the Stations of the Cross. This week they will be led by the Altar Society. All are encouraged to participate in this traditional Lenten devotion.

CONFESSIONS

All Churches in our Diocese will be open on Wednes-day, February 28th, from 5 to 8pm for Confessions. All are invited to take advantage of this unique oppor-tunity to receive this sacrament. We reach out especially to those who have been away for a while so we can provide an opportunity for them to return to the sacramental life of the Church.
