2014

March 7 - 8, 2015

This weekend marks the Third Sunday of Lent. It has been just 2˝ weeks since the season started, when we received ashes on our foreheads and were all reminded to "Repent and believe in the Good News."

During this season, we are asked to take a good look at ourselves, to recognize our sinfulness, and to renew our commitment to follow our Lord. Probably the most difficult thing for us to do is acknowledge is our sinfulness. We can declare that as human beings, we are sinful, but do we personally look at our lives and recognize our own sinfulness? How have we offended God? How have we hurt our neighbor? Once we acknowledge our own sins, what can we do to atone for our sins? What acts of penance do we perform? Are they really acts of penance?

It is only by recognizing our sinfulness and acts of penance can we really appreciate and begin to understand our Lord’s Passion and Death. And only when we place ourselves with our Lord, will we really understand His triumph in the Resurrection.

Let all of us make this season of Lent a true season of penance and renewal.

                                                       God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice
