May 2 - 3, 2015

Welcome!

I ask everyone to join me in welcoming Fr. Frank Walsh to our Parish. He will be offering his assistance with weekend Masses and some daily Masses when I can’t be here. Father Walsh will celebrate one Mass on most weekends, rotating through our English language Masses.

Many know him, as he was pastor at St. Jerome for many years beginning back in 1976. Father retired as pastor of St. Luke Parish in Lakewood.

When you see him, please make him feel welcome.

                                                               God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice

FIRST COMMUNION

This Sunday, Aiste Berzinskas will make her First Communion at our 10:00am Mass. We congratulate her on this milestone in her life and ask God’s Blessing on her and her family.

2016 MASSES

Usually at this time of year, we begin accepting Masses for the following year. However, because we have so many open dates for Masses this year, we will not open the 2016 Mass book until we fill this year’s Mass Book. Those who wish to schedule Masses this for this year, are asked to contact the Parish office.

MEMORIAL DAY

Monday, May 25th is Memorial Day. Again this year, our Catholic War Veterans Post 613 will have their annual Memorial Day commemoration here at St. Casimir, beginning at 8:30am with a service at the Freedom Memorial in our Neff Road parking lot, followed by Mass at 9:00am. The commemoration will conclude with breakfast in our lower hall. All are invited.

THE ALTAR SOCIETY ASKS FOR YOUR HELP

The Altar Society thanks everyone who placed an order for flowers and vegetables. This year we have more orders to fill than ever before. And so – we need your help on the day the flowers are delivered to help unload the truck and sort the orders – more than ever before.

We need your help on Saturday, May 16, between 9:45am and 2:00pm. If you can come help out for all or even just a part of the time, please let us know.

There is a sign-up sheet at the main entrance of the church, or call Jackie Taylor 216-509-0401 or Julie Vaitkus 216-392-5170. Many hands make light work. Thank you!

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

This weekend we welcome everyone to our Pancake Breakfast, the best one in North Collinwood. We will be serving between 8:30am and 1:30pm. Tickets are available at the door. Adult tickets cost $7, and children age 6 to 13 cost $4. Profit from this fund raiser benefits our parish.

HOLY NAME SOCIETY

During May, our Holy Name Society is recruiting new members to expand their organization. Membership in the Holy Name Society is open to all parishioners who wish to either be active or inactive members. The Holy Name Society is worldwide Catholic organization that promotes the Holy Name of Jesus, fosters prayer, good citizenship, and assists in the mission of the Parish.

The Society in our parish is four years old and in that time has sponsored our monthly Eucharistic Devotion, participates together at the Holy Name Mass on the second Saturday of each month at 5:30, it purchased a beer tap for use at parish activities, and has a cook-out for the parish each August. They also participate in Holy Name activities within our region and on a diocesan level. Individual members of the Society participate in our fund raising activities, serve as Church ushers, and publish our monthly “Ministry of Praise” newsletter for our shut-ins. Their primary source of funds is their monthly split raffle. They meet monthly on the last Wednesday at 7:00pm. Annual dues at just $5. A membership envelope is enclosed in the current envelope pack.

ORDINATION

On Saturday, June 13, 2015, Deacon Lukas Laniauskas will be ordained to the order of Presbyter for service to the Society of Jesus of the Chicago-Detroit Province at the Queen of All Saints Basilica in Chicago, Illinois. The Presiding Bishop will be the Most Reverend Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., Archbishop of Indianapolis. Father Laniauskas will celebrate a First Mass of Thanksgiving on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 4:00pm at Camp Dainava in Manchester, Michigan. He also looks forward to coming home to St. Casimir’s to celebrate Mass sometime this autumn.

As a Parish community, we thank God for the gift of Father Laniauskas’ vocation and offer our prayers that he have a blessed and fulfilled life serving the Church as a Jesuit Priest.

As plans are finalized for Father’s Mass here at St. Casimir’s, we will keep everyone informed.
