FLOWERS FOR OUR BLESSED MOTHER

May is the month of Mary when traditionally we make an extra effort to honor Mary with our prayers as well as gifts of flowers. We invite you to bring flowers (cut flowers in your vase or potted plants) and place them on Mary’s altar. Altar Society members will help maintain them and make sure your vase (please mark it with your name) is kept for your return. Honor Mary in May with prayer, flowers, and by lighting a candle.

FLOWER SALE REMINDER

Thank you to everyone who ordered plants from the Altar Society’s annual spring sale. A reminder to pick up your plants in the gym next weekend: Saturday, May 14 from 2:00-5:00pm and on Sunday, May 15 after all of the Masses.

Our next Pancake Breakfast will be on Sunday, May 22nd, after all the Masses, from 8:30am to 1:30pm. Adults - $7 and children 12 and younger - $4. Save $1 by purchasing your ticket early. No tickets are required for this family friendly event. The program will include music by Mendelssohn and Dvorak. Avner Dorman is the conductor and violin soloist Tessa Lark is the featured performer. Join us before the concert in the school gym from 5:30-6:30 for a Chili and Loaded Baked Potato dinner. Adult dinner - $8 and children under 12 - $4.

CATHOLIC WAR VETERANS

Post 613 of the Catholic War Veterans is having its annual Poppy Distribution the weekend of May 21-22, before and after all Masses. The red poppy is a symbol of the blood shed by our military and a reminder of the sacrifice they made for us. Proceeds from the donations received support the Post’s work with disabled and hospitalized veterans.

MEMORIAL DAY

Monday, May 30th is Memorial Day. Again this year, our Catholic War Veterans Post 613 will have their annual Memorial Day commemoration here at St. Casimir, beginning at 8:30am with a service at the Freedom Memorial in our Neff Road parking lot, followed by Mass at 9:00. The commemoration will conclude with breakfast in our lower hall. All are invited.

This Sunday, is Mothers Day, the day we honor our mothers. On this day, we remember the prayer of blessing given to new mothers on the day their child is baptized: "God the Father, through his Son, the Virgin Mary’s child, has brought joy to all Christian mothers, as they see the hope of eternal light shine on their children. May he bless (our mothers). They now thank God for the gift of their children. May they be one with their children in thanking God for ever in heaven, in Christ Jesus our Lord."

With my best wishes to all mothers on this Mothers Day!

God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Wednesday, May 11th, we will have our monthly evening adoration from 6-9pm. For those who are able to make a commitment to be present for adoration at a specific time in May are asked to sign up at the main entrance to the Church.

HOLY NAME SOCIETY

The Diocesan Union of Holy Name Societies is having a Prayer Vigil at St. Monica Church (13623 Rockside Rd. Garfield Heights) on Tuesday, May 10 at 7:00pm. All are invited to come together to praise and glorify the Most Holy Name of Jesus.

OFFICE OF CATECHETICAL SERVICES

This weekend we are accepting donations to support the Office of Catechetical Services. This office focuses on supporting and enhancing the catechetical initiative (PSR programs) throughout the Diocese and supports faith formation for all including adult faith formation, catechetical leader training and catechist formation for teachers of religion, media literacy, and the Newman Campus Ministry program. Please use the envelopes provided for this collection and please be generous.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

As the activity year winds down, many start thinking about summer activities. This is the time of year I start thinking about next year, particularly regarding religious education. It is the parish’s responsibility to see that the children are receiving religious education and are participating in the life of the Church. For our younger children, preparation is needed for their First Communion. Diocesan policy requires two years of religious education prior to receiving First Communion. For those approaching their teen years, preparation is needed to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. For those in Catholic School, there is a seven week program and for those not in Catholic School, an additional two years of religious education is needed.

Families who have children who will be receiving their First Communion or Confirmation are asked to contact Fr. Bacevice to register for classes.
