MASSES

We still have 50 Mass openings for this year, both on weekdays and on weekends. Those who would like to schedule Masses for 2018, are asked to please contact our office. The usual offering for Mass is $10. Once these Masses are scheduled, we will open the 2019 Mass book.

CATHOLIC WAR VETERANS NEWS

On Sunday, April 22nd, from 1-5pm the Catholic War Veterans Post 613 will have an open house in their Club Room in the basement of the Lithuanian Village (877 E. 185th St.) There will be food, refreshments, shuffleboard and other activities for the whole family. All are welcome – family, friends and possible new members.

HOLY WEEK SURVEY

Have you returned your Holy Week survey? Last weekend we included a brief survey seeking feedback about our Holy Week services. Please return them by next Sunday, April 22nd. Your participation in this survey will help us plan next year’s Holy Week services.

GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS

This year the 50th Wedding Anniversary Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, July 29th at 2:30pm at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Those who were married in 1968 and would like to participate at this Mass are asked to contact Father Bacevice for a registration form.

CATHOLIC RADIO: AM 1260

The Rock, Cleveland’s Catholic Radio Station is having their Spring Spirit Drive Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 18-20. As a listener-funded station, they need all of us to support them as they continue providing faithful, engaging Catholic programming to our diocese. You are encouraged to listen to the station and support it as you are able. We are blessed to have Catholic radio in Cleveland.

THE TAMBURITZANS IN CONCERT

The Tamburitzans will perform in concert on Sunday, April 22nd, at 3:00pm at the Breen Center for the Performing Arts (2007 West 30th St.) directly across from St. Ignatius High School and just west of the West Side Market. The theater is handicapped accessible and has ample free parking. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students under 18. They can be purchased online (www.talentshadows.events) or by calling Anna Lucic at 440-461-3541.

Every week when I write the bulletin, I have announcements that come in from organizations, activities going on in the parish that need to be publicized, announcements from the diocese, and other messages that should be of interest to you. It seems that so many things become a priority that we sometimes forget what is really important.

This also happens in our personal lives. When I get together with other priests, often our conversations turn to what our immediate concerns are: how many people come to Mass, the amount of the Sunday offering, the number of funerals compared to the number of baptisms and weddings, how will we afford to keep our doors open in the future, and how are we going to find priests to serve parishes in the future when we can’t find a priest to be available to cover a vacation. It seems that we get so caught up in the immediate issues that we lose sight of the “big picture.”

Every month, as I put in the monthly announcement of our First Friday Holy Hour and our Second Wednesday Eucharistic Adoration, I stop to think about the “big picture.” In the midst of our busy lives, we are called to take some time - be it ten or fifteen minutes, or an hour - to just be with Our Lord in quiet prayer, meditation, or to just sit in Our Lord’s presence.

All of us need to step back periodically, and focus on our faith. We have our cultural activities, our social activities, our work activities and our leisure activities. If we don’t spend more time fostering our religious activities, we may find ourselves giving up our precious gift of faith. And without faith, why do we need to be here?

God Bless ! Fr. Joe Bacevice
