HAPPY FATHERS DAY
This
Sunday we honor our fathers. In his exhortation
“Amoris Laetitia” (The Joy of Love), Pope Francis
writes beautifully about the role of the father in a
family.
“God sets the father in the family
so that by the gifts of his masculinity he can be close
to his wife and share everything, joy and sorrow, hope
and hardship. And to be close to his children as they
grow – when they play and when they work, when they are
carefree and when they are distressed, when they are
talkative and when they are silent, when they are daring
and when they are afraid, when they stray and when they
get back on the right path.
To be a father is to be always present. When I say
‘present’, I do not mean ‘controlling.’ Fathers who are
too controlling overshadow their children, they don’t
let them develop. Some fathers feel they are useless and
unnecessary, but the fact is that children need to find
a father waiting for them when they return home with
their problems. They may try hard not to admit it, not
to show it, but they need it. It is not good for
children to lack a father and grow up before they are
ready.”
(#177) Happy Fathers Day!
BALTIC COMMEMORATION
On
Sunday, June 19th,
the Baltic American Committee of Cleveland is sponsoring a
prayer service to commemorate the 75th
anniversary of the occupation of the Baltic States and
remember the victims of the mass deportations of June 13-14,
1941. The service will take place at
2:00pm at the Latvian Lutheran Church at the corner
of Andrews Ave. and Detroit Rd. in Lakewood. Refreshments
will be served afterward. There will be a guest speaker at
the event. All are invited to join with the Estonians and
Latvians for this commemoration.
FORTNIGHT FOR
FREEDOM
Again this year, the United States Conference of
Catholic Bishops encourages Catholics across our country
to enter into the two weeks leading up to the Fourth of
July with a strong focus on prayer, education, and
reflection on our first freedom - freedom of religion.
Beginning June 21st and ending July 4th, we will
offer daily prayers and reflections on this important
freedom. This will conclude with Mass on Monday, July
4th, at 10:00 am at St. John’s Cathedral. All are
invited to take part showing our commitment to embrace
and defend our Freedoms.
THE FEST
As
the summer season begins, mark your calendar for the
highlight of the summer season - The FEST. On
Sunday, August 7th,
from 12noon until 10pm join
together with thousands from across our diocese for a
day of faith, family and fun. The 16th Annual
Catholic Family FESTival will be held on the grounds of
the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe. The
FEST features great Christian artists: Newsboys, Michael
W. Smith, Matthew West, and Lauren Daigle, and has
engaging activities and displays for the entire family.
The FEST is free and open to all. The day
concludes with an inspiring outdoor Mass at
8pm. It’s the highlight of
summer, everything that your family needs for a great
family day. For more information, go online to:

This weekend we remember the 76th Anniversary of the
Occupation of the Baltic countries and the 75th Anniversary
of the Mass Deportations of the Lithuanians, Latvians and
Estonians from their native homelands by the Soviet Union at
the beginning of World War II.
There are
very few left who remember first hand those tragic events.
However, there are many who remember stories from parents
and grandparents who witnessed these events and lived
through them. As succeeding generations are born, these
events go further back in history and could very well be
forgotten. This would be a tragedy, not only for those who
lost their lives or family members, but for future
generations who would never know the daily horrors of war.
Those tragic events that began 76 years ago continued in the
Soviet Union until it broke apart just over 25 years ago. As
we remember these events in the past, we are reminded again
to be vigilant as individuals and as nations, to insure that
these are not repeated in the future.
God Bless! Fr.

MISSION OFFERING
This weekend we will accept donations
for the Missionary Diocese of Orlu, Nigeria. Please put
your donation in an envelope and write “Mission Appeal”
on it. So that we can credit your donation, please
include your name and envelope number (if you know it).
Thank you for your donations and generous hearts.
ANOTHER THANK YOU
Again
we say “Thank You” to the Altar Society for their
donation of $251.70, to cover the cost of purchasing new
Mass linens. THANK YOU!
HELPERS NEEDED
We are looking for a few good people to help keep our
parish running smoothly. First we need additional ushers
who can greet people when they come to Mass, take up the
weekly collection, and act as “first responders” when
someone needs help in Church. We’re looking for ushers
for all the Masses, but the need is greatest at the
12:00 noon Mass on Sunday. We are also looking for
adults who would be available to serve funerals. If
anyone is interested in being a church usher or a
funeral server, please contact Father Bacevice.
SUMMER OFFICE HOURS
During
the summer months and until
September 11th,
our office will be CLOSED on
Fridays. Church activities (Mass, funerals,
wedding rehearsals and other activities) will not be
affected. To serve the business needs of the parish,
our office will be open
Monday
through
Thursday
from
10:00 to 12:00noon,
and from
1:00 until 6:00pm.
Please follow these hours for all non-emergency
matters.
