November 22- 23, 2014

Thursday of this week is Thanksgiving Day, the holiday set aside each year for us to pause and give thanks to God for all that we have. Too many times we allow ourselves to become critics and complainers. It seems that we can always find things to criticize in our society and in our Church. On Thanksgiving Day, we are reminded to look beyond the problems and difficulties and look at what we do have. Even our poorest people have a place to live and food to eat. We have access to health care and we have a voice in our government. As people of faith, we have much for which we are thankful. We are free to practice our faith and we have a loving God who watches over us.

On this Thanksgiving Day, let us all take time to offer a prayer of thanks to God for all the gifts we have received. Let us also remember those who have less than we do. Let us renew our efforts to help everyone improve their lives so we can continue to grow as people and as a society of justice, of peace and of love.

One of the best ways to offer thanks is to worship together as a community. On Thanksgiving Day, we invite everyone in the parish to gather for the celebration of Mass at 9:00am.

                                                                                     God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice

OFFICES CLOSED

Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, our Parish offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 27-28.

CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

Our Holy Father, Pope Francis said, "The measure of the greatness of a society is found in the way it treats those most in need, those who have nothing apart from their poverty." Please join in the Church’s mission to help the most vulnerable among us by making a generous offering to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.

GIVING TREE

Our Holy Name Society is again sponsoring a Giving Tree to assist families in our own Parish who are in need of "a little help" at Christmas. This year, the items on the ornaments are various gift and food cards in denominations of $5, $10 and $25. Simply choose what ornaments you want, purchase the gift cards, and return them either in the collection basket, at the Rectory or give them to any member of the Holy Name Society by December 14th. They will be distributed to the families before Christmas.

REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS

Please pray for the repose of the souls of Jennie Simone, Irene Rydelis, Kestutis Steponavicius, and Joseph Starman, who recently died and were buried from our parish. May they have eternal rest in the peace of God’s Kingdom.

PASTORAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

Pastoral Council elections begin this weekend and continue through December 7th. Ballots and candidate statements are available at the main entrance of the Church. If you are unable to pick up a ballot, please call the rectory and a ballot will be mailed to you.

Completed ballots can be returned to the Rectory, placed in the collection basket or put in the ballot box which is located in front of the Church next to Father Bacevice’s confessional. Ballots will be accepted until 2:00pm on Sunday, December 7th. We encourage all registered members age 16 and older to vote.

CELEBRATION OF ADVENT VESPERS

All are welcome to the Annual Collinwood Cluster Parish Advent Penance Service on Monday, December 15th, at 7 pm at Holy Redeemer Parish. Priests from our cluster parishes will be available for individual confessions during the prayer service.
