December 20 -21, 2014

Thursday is Christmas, the day we celebrate the birth of our Savior. For most of us, this day will be filled with tradition, remembering our own childhood and marveling at the wonder we see in the eyes of the children and grandchildren in our  families.

But more than tradition, Christmas is a celebration of life – our own lives, and the lives we are living today. The message of the angels – "Today a savior has been born to you..." reminds all of us of God’s presence in our own lives.

May the Peace and Joy that this great Feast signifies, be with you this Christmas Day and every day of your lives. In the name of all our employees, our pastoral staff, and the volunteers who do so much for our Parish, I wish all of you a very Holy and Peaceful Christmas.

                                                       God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice

PLEASE PRAY

We ask you to remember in your prayers the soul of Bishop Edward Pevec who died last Sunday. Bishop Pevec was a friend to many. Growing up in the Slovenian ethnic community and serving as Pastor at St. Vitus Church, Bishop Pevec was very supportive and sensitive to the unique needs of our ethnic communities. May he enjoy eternal rest in the peace of God’s Kingdom.

PEACE LIGHT

The “Peace Light” is a movement that began 1986 in Austria, when a child traveled to Bethlehem and lit a lantern off of a light in the grotto of Jesus’ birth. The flame was carried back to Austria and carried throughout Europe through the efforts of scouts. The light was first brought to New York in 2001 by the Canadian Scouts and placed at Ground Zero. It has been brought back each year since then. Our Lithuanian Scouts received this light last week from the Ukrainian scouts and have placed it in our Church. It will burn in our church building through the Christmas Season as a reminder to all of us to pray and work for peace in our neighborhoods, our country and throughout the world.

HELP DECORATE THE CHURCH FOR CHRISTMAS

The Altar Society invites you to make a donation and join them in their work of decorating the church for Christmas. There is an envelope marked “Christmas flowers and decorationsin your current offertory envelope packet.

Sunday, December 21st, after the 12:00 Mass, (at about 12:45pm) we invite you to come help decorate the Church for Christmas. Many hands make light work. We hope to see you there!

YOUR CHRISTMAS OFFERING

Christmas is a traditional time for people to make an extra offering to the Church. As you consider your Christmas offering to Saint Casimir’s, I ask you to consider the place our Parish has in your heart. Your Parish is more than just a place to go to Church on Sundays. It is where we go in times of joy and grief, in times of hope and despair, and in times of healing.

We all know that winter is the most expensive time of the year and as a parish, we face many challenges. So we ask that everyone make an extra effort to give a substantial offering this Christmas, because it is only because of your generous support that we can continue our work.

GIVING TREE

The Holy Name Society thanks those who contributed to make our Giving Tree a success. A total of $2,315.00 in gift cards and cash was donated. With this, we were able to help 12 families in our parish and provide food and clothing help to particularly needy people in our neighborhood served by the ministry of the Sisters of Notre Dame through our convent. God Bless You!

 BUILDING REPAIRS

The Upper Hall (gym) along with the stage, vestibule, classrooms, and upper level will be CLOSED FOR ALL ACTIVITIES from Monday, December 22, 2014 through Sunday, January 11, 2015, for renovations. The ceilings and walls will be painted, and the floor will be sanded, refinished and striped for basketball. The majority of the work will be done to the floor, so it is critical that no one enter the gym during this period.

CALENDARS AND CHRISTMAS WAFERS

Our 2015 Church Calendars are now available. We thank our friends and fellow parishioners at the Jakubs Funeral Home for providing them this year. They are on the tables in the main lobby of the Church building.

Traditional Christmas Wafers are available at the main entrance to the Church at Mass times, in the lower hall after the 10:00 Mass and at the Rectory during the week. We encourage everyone in the Parish to participate in this ancient Eastern European tradition.

OFFICE CLOSED

Our parish office will close on Christmas Eve at 12:00 noon and will be closed on Christmas Day and December 26th . We will open again on Monday, December 29th.

CHRISTMAS COOKIE COFFEE SOCIAL

Sunday, December 28, everyone is invited to participate in a family-style Coffee Social after 10:00 Mass. All parish families are invited to bring a plate of Christmas cookies to the cafeteria to share the Christmas spirit (and your goodies) with your fellow parishioners.
