EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
On
Wednesday, July 11th,
we will have Eucharistic Adoration in the Church from 6-7pm. All are
invited to stop in and spend some time in quiet prayer before the Blessed
Sacrament.
MISSION
APPEAL
This
weekend, Fr. Bill Roland, SM, of the Marist
Missions will conduct our summer Mission Appeal. Since its official
recognition by the Church in 1836, the Marist Fathers and Brother have
committed themselves to the missions of the southwest Pacific. Since that
time, they have expanded into areas of Africa, Asia and South America. Today
there are nearly 230 priests and brothers working in “bush stations,”
teaching, ministering in training institutions, providing direct service to
the poor, oppressed and marginalized, and contributing to the development of
people for a better society and a strong local church. Contributions to this
Mission Appeal will help the Marists in their mission to witness to the
Gospel, service to the needy and helping the local Church build a strong
base for its promising future. Thank you for whatever you can do to help
them in their life-long commitment and work. Special envelopes for this
appeal are on the tables at the entrances to the Church.
PICNIC FOR PARISHIONERS
The
Holy Name Society is pleased to announce that this year’s Annual Picnic for
Parishioners will take place on Wednesday, July 25, from 5-8 pm for
the first time at the East Shore Park Club, at the corner of East
Park and Dorchester Dr., on the shores of Lake Erie. Hot dogs, burgers,
snacks and soft drinks will be served. There is no cost for the picnic as
the Holy Name Society underwrites the entire cost. This is a good way to
meet fellow parishioners and learn about the Holy Name Society. We look
forward to seeing you there.
THE FEST
The best
gift you can give is your time. This Father’s Day weekend, make sure to
invite Dad (and the rest of the family) to spend time with you at the FEST
on Sunday, August 5th. The perfect family day and free
event is full of great music, engaging displays, and fun activities. Of
course, the highlight of the whole day is the outdoor Mass, beginning at
8:00pm with Bishop Perez. You and your dad are not going to want to miss any
of this, so make sure to head out to the Center for Pastoral Leadership in
Wickliffe for a day full of faith, family and friends. For more information

This break has given me some time to start thinking about our future as a
parish and what we will be as a parish in five, ten or even twenty years. Each
year, we as a parish have gone through several changes. Although each one seems
insignificant, when taken together, I can see that we are very different from
what we were just a few years ago.
The first thing I notice is that Mass attendance is down across all our
weekend Masses, while weekday Mass attendance has actually increased. Since the
end of the 2011-2012 fiscal year, Offertory Collection has been going down. The
total offertory collection for the fiscal year that just ended is down $31,000
from the 2012 fiscal year. Even with our offertory collections going down, our
total income has gone up from $335,000 at the end o the 2012 fiscal year to
$499,000 at the end of this fiscal year. For the past few years, our rental
income has exceeded our offertory income. As our income has increased, so have
our expenses. Over the past nine years, we have spent over $652,000 on major
improvements, and there is still much more that needs to be done. For the past
several years, we have had to delay major improvements, primarily on the church
building, because of a lack of funds.
During the coming months, the Pastoral and Finance Councils and I will be
looking at all aspects of parish life. I am asking them to make suggestions to
me on how we can improve parish life. I will also be asking everyone in the
parish the same questions. I want to look at everything: Mass schedules,
spiritual programs, parish activities, fund raisers, and parish organizations,
to see how we can improve, and how we can engage our members of all ages and
backgrounds, so that we can continue to grow and thrive to be a vibrant parish,
one that serves the needs of our members, reaches out to welcome new members,
and takes an active role in our North Collinwood community.
God
Bless ! Fr. Joe Bacevice

REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS
We
ask you to remember in your prayers the soul of Antoinette Van Loozen who
died recently and was buried from our parish. May she have eternal rest in
the peace of God’s kingdom.
NO SUNDAY COFFEE
All are reminded that there
will be no coffee hour after the 10:00 Mass during the entire month of
July. Coffee will resume in early August.
