October 31 - November 1, 2015

Last week, I attended a day long meeting of priests where we discussed the future of our diocese. The meeting concentrated on statistics and projections of population and priests, and what was very obvious was that the number of priests serving our diocese is decreasing much faster than the Catholic population of our diocese. Within ten years, we will not have enough priests to staff all our parishes, assuming that we will continue to ordain five priests each year.

One of the challenges that all of us as Catholics face is to encourage young men to investigate whether they have a religious vocation. There are things that we can do as priests to encourage vocations, but even more must by done by every one of you to encourage religious vocations. First, we must all pray, and then we need to encourage young men to investigate vocations. We here at St. Casimir’s are proud of our recent record regarding religious vocations: Fatherr Laniauskas was ordained this year and calls our parish his home. Christian Raddell is in his third year of studies at Borromeo Seminary.

Today begins vocation awareness week. With this bulletin is a flier listing all the seminary students in formation at our seminary along with information about vocations to the priesthood. We also have a prayer card promoting vocations.

If all of us do our part, perhaps we can have enough priests to take care of our needs as a diocese into the future.

                                                               God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Friday, November 6 is the First Friday of the Month. We will have our monthly Eucharistic Adoration from 8-9 am. All in the Parish are invited to spend some time in quiet prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. Our evening Adoration will be on Wednesday, November 11 from 6-9 pm. We are looking for individuals to commit to spending specific times in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. If you are able to commit, please sign up in at the main entrance to the Church.

PASTORAL COUNCIL

The last day to submit your name for a seat on the Parish Pastoral Council is THIS SUNDAY, November 1. Please consider serving on our Pastoral Council. Application forms are available in the Book Room. Any member of the parish, 16 and older, with a few exceptions, is eligible to run for a seat on the Pastoral Council. We are looking for at least three candidates to replace the three current members who are finishing their term.

ELECTION DAY

Tuesday, November 3rd is Election Day, that day that all citizens are called to exercise our right to vote. The polls will be open from 6:30am until 7:30pm. As with any “right”, there is a corresponding “duty.” With our right to vote, we have a duty to vote. With 13 hours to vote on election day along with absentee ballots and early voting, there should be no reason for a citizen to not perform their duty to vote.
