THE INSTALLATION OF BISHOP NELSON PEREZ

The Diocese of Cleveland will welcome our new Bishop on September 5, 2017. There will be two special events at the Cathedral to mark the arrival of the diocese’s 11th Bishop: On Monday, September 4th, vespers (evening prayer) will take place at 5:30pm. The following day, on September 5th, Bishop Perez will be installed as Bishop of Cleveland during Mass beginning at 1:30pm.

Because of limited seating, both liturgies are by invitation only and tickets are required. However, there will be opportunities to view vespers and the installation Mass. Both liturgies will be streamed live on a special website: www.bishopperezinstallation.org and on the diocesan website: www.dioceseofcleveland.org  as well as on the Diocese of Cleveland Facebook and You Tube pages. Live coverage will begin on September 4th at 5:25pm and on September 5th at 1:30pm. Live coverage of the installation Mass will be offered on the EWTN network, beginning at 2:00pm on September 5th. Spectrum Cable is also planning to carry the Mass on Channel 1314. The Catholic TV cable network and radio stations WCCR AM 1260 and WILB AM 1060 will also broadcast the Mass. FALL FUND RAISER

Our 7th Annual Clambake/Steak Roast/Autumn Raffle will take place on Saturday, October 21st beginning after the 5:30 Mass in our upper hall. Raffle tickets are now available at the back of the Church. All parishioners are asked to pick up their envelope with Raffle tickets, as this will save us the cost of mailing them to everyone. Dinner tickets will be available after Labor Day.
We invite everyone to participate in the fund raiser to support our parish. In addition to great food, there will be plenty of refreshments, a basket auction, split raffles and much more.

WE ARE ASKING FOR VOLUNTEERS to help with this project. Set up, clean up, bakers, and other volunteer positions need to be filled. Please sign up in the Book Room to help us out. We look forward to seeing everyone on October 21st.

PROGRAM BOOK Again this year, we are printing a program book for our Fall Fund Raiser. Parishioners, Parish Organizations, and businesses are invited to advertise or send their greetings showing support for our Parish. An ad can be placed in the book for as little as $10. Ad forms are in everyone’s ticket envelope. Additional forms are available at the back of the church. We invite and encourage everyone to participate.

Monday, September 4th, is Labor Day. Not only does this mark the end of the traditional summer season in Cleveland, but it is a celebration of the dignity of labor that makes us a strong people. Established in 1887, it is a celebration of the American Labor Movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers. Labor Day is also a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of their country.

Our Lord, many times in the Gospels refers to labor in some revolutionary terms for his day. In an era of slave labor, Jesus says that a laborer is worth his wages. He also reminds us that the harvest is great, but the laborers are few. He urges his followers to pray to the harvest master to send more laborers into the field.

So on Labor Day we honor those who contribute to our lives through work – physical and mental – and are reminded that no matter what someone’s job is, from the lowliest to the highest, they are doing important jobs and that those workers are entitled to a just wage for their efforts.

God Bless!   Fr. Joe Bacevice

We ask you to remember in your prayers the soul of Christine Dziekan, who died recently and was buried through our parish. May she have eternal rest in the peace of God’s kingdom.

On Wednesday, September 13th, we will have our monthly Eucharistic Adoration from 6-9 pm. We invite everyone to stop in as spend some time in quiet prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. We encourage you to make a specific commitment to spend a specific time in prayer on these days. For those who are able to make such a commitment, please sign up in the Book Room.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED FOR DISASTER RELIEF

The United States Catholic Conference of Bishops has asked us to have an emergency collection to assist the victims of Hurricane Harvey. The hurricane has created a catastrophic weather event of immense proportions in southeast Texas and may strike Louisiana. Forecasters predict the area will be flooded with 50 or more inches of rain. Twelve million people are under flash flood warnings and rivers and reservoirs will be flooding the land for some time.

This emergency collection will be used to support the humanitarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA and to provide pastoral and rebuilding support to the impacted dioceses through the USCCB. We will take up this collection next weekend (September 9-10). Please make your checks out to St. Casimir Parish, and mark them “Hurricane Harvey Relief.” There are special envelopes with the bulletins this weekend for this purpose.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

PSR and Sunday Preschool will begin on Sunday, September 10th. The PSR program is open to students in grades 1-8 who do not attend Catholic schools. Preschool is open to children age 3-5. PSR meets in the school from 10:45 to 11:45, and preschool also meets in the school during the 12:00 noon Mass.
