Thursday of this week, we welcome Fr. Andrew Morkunas to our parish. Father Andrew will be joining members of his ordination class of 2009 to celebrate their Tenth Anniversary.

Father Morkunas was born in Cleveland and his family were members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. He grew up in Euclid, Ohio. After college Fr. Morkunas joined the Army and was stationed in Washington, D.C. When he was discharged from the service, he entered the Seminary to be a priest for the Archdiocese of Washington, and was ordained a priest in 2009. Wanting to be closer to family, he received permission to initiate the transfer process to the Diocese of Cleveland. He is currently assigned as chaplain at Hillcrest Hospital and part-time parochial vicar (assistant) at St. John of the Cross parish in Euclid, with his residence at St. Francis of Assisi in Gates Mills.

We welcome him back home to Cleveland and congratulate him on his Tenth Anniversary and wish him many more.

God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice

CATHOLIC CEMETERIES

On October 6th, the month of the Most Holy Rosary, at 1:00pm, the Catholic Cemeteries Association invites families to participate in a half-mile walk while praying the Rosary in honor of departed loved ones. For those who cannot walk, or in case of rain, the Rosary will be prayed in the mausoleum or in the cemetery office. At the end of the Rosary, there is a brief candle lighting ceremony in remembrance of our dearly departed. We are seeking walkers and Rosary Leaders. If you are able to lead the Rosary, contact Rhonda Abrams at rabrams@clecem.org or call 216-930-4866. Register to walk online at: https://conta.cc/2XBXy8K or at a Catholic Cemetery office.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Our next Pancake Breakfast will be on Sunday, September 15th, from 8:30am to 1:30pm. Tickets are now available after the weekend Masses at the main entrance to the Church, in the lower hall after the 10:00 Mass and at the Rectory during the week. Adult tickets - $7, children 10 and younger are free. Save $1 by purchasing your tickets early. All proceeds benefit the parish.

FALL FUND RAISER

Our Ninth Annual Clambake/Steak Bake/Autumn Raffle will take place on Saturday, October 26th, beginning after the 5:30 Mass in our upper hall. Raffle tickets are now available at the back of the Church. All parishioners are asked to pick up their envelope with Raffle tickets, as this will save us the cost of mailing them to everyone.

We invite everyone to participate in this fund-raiser to support our parish. In addition to great food, there will be plenty of refreshments, a basket auction, split raffles, sideboards and much more. Dinner tickets will be available after Labor Day.

We are also looking for volunteers to help with this project. Set up, clean up, bakers, and other volunteer positions need to be filled. Please sign up in the Book Room to help us out. We look forward to seeing everyone on October 26th.

PROGRAM BOOK

Again this year, we are printing a program book for our Fall Fund Raiser. Parishioners, Parish Organizations, and businesses are invited to advertise or send their greetings showing support for our Parish. An ad can be placed in the book for as little as $10. Ad forms are in everyone’s ticket envelope. Additional forms are available at the back of the church. Everyone is invited to participate.

FAMILY PERSPECTIVE

“Those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Family life confirms the words of Jesus in today’s gospel. Commitment, intimacy, loyalty, and love are the rewards of humble service and care for one another. Pope Frances reminds us, “no family drops down from heaven perfectly formed.” (The Joy of Love #325)

PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN

The Diocese of Cleveland’s “Protecting God’s Children” program is a continuing effort to instruct and inform everyone about the protection of children from sexual abuse. To report any past or present suspected inappropriate behavior toward children by priests, deacons, religious, lay ecclesial ministers or personnel associated with the Church, please contact the Diocesan Response Service Office via e-mail at responseservices@dioceseofcleveland.org or calling at 216-334-2999. You are also asked to immediately inform local authorities about inappropriate behavior.
