A few weeks ago, the
day after our Clambake fund
raiser, we celebrated our
sixth anniversary as St.
Casimir Parish. That date
also was the last day of my
term as Pastor. The
following
Tuesday, I spoke with
Bishop Lennon, and he asked
me to stay for another six
year term. So here I am,
pastor of St. Casimir for
another six years.
The Bishop and I had spoken earlier about me taking
another six year term, so it
wasn’t a surprise. He was
very pleased with the
progress we have made as a
parish in the last six years
and is well aware of the
difficulties we had blending
so many different
communities into what we now
call St. Casimir’s Parish.
He also reminded me of the
challenges that we will face
in the future.
As I look back over last six years, I see many changes
that have taken place, most
of them for the better. We
had to concentrate a lot of
effort on repairs and
improvements, and to raise
the money needed to
accomplish them. In the
coming years, we will have
to continue with those
efforts. More importantly,
though, we concentrated much
more effort in bringing two
Lithuanian parishes
together, along with
welcoming our non-Lithuanian
members to their new home.
The challenge we face in the future is to continue our
growth. If we are to remain
a vibrant Community of
Faith, we have to continue
to welcome new members and
encourage them to become
active supporting members of
our Parish. This kind of
work is not easy and I can’t
do it alone. To make this
happen, all of us have to
work together. We need to
reach out to our neighbors
who haven’t committed to
being members of a parish as
well as reaching out to the
members of the Lithuanian
Community and invite them to
become full participating
members. All of us also have
to reach out to our
non-Catholic neighbors and
show them the value of
becoming Catholic and being
a member of St. Casimir’s.
These are big challenges, but they are important
challenges. So let us all
commit ourselves to another
six years of growth - in
numbers and in commitment -
of our Parish, so that in
the year 2021, the Bishop
will ask me to stay for
another six years.
God Bless! Fr. Joe Bacevice
