DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS
Too
many women, men and children are subjected to controlling or abusive
behaviors which include harsh words, insults and threats, silence and
isolating behavior, controlling money, isolation from family members and
friends, displays of tempers that are frightening, throwing or breaking
things, hitting, grabbing, punching or choking. The cycle of abuse in
relationships too often passes on from generation to generation. Hope and
help are available. Contact the Domestic Violence Center

REMEMBERING CLOISTERED COMMUNITIES
Each
year there is a special day when we remember the Cloistered Communities of
women and men who are a tremendous gift to the Church. Pope Pius XII first
instituted this ecclesial worldwide event in 1953. Pope St. John Paul II
later expanded this worldwide event in 1997, to be celebrated each year on
the Memorial of Mary’s Presentation in the Temple. This day was established
to provide spiritual and material support to Cloistered Communities.
In
our modern world, we often don’t really think that these groups still exist.
Presently we have three Cloistered Communities in our diocese: Carmel of the
Holy Family, Poor Clare Colettines, and Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration.
We are encouraged to pray for these communities on the weekends of November
11-12, November 18-19, and on Tuesday, November 21, the Memorial of the
Presentation of Mary in the Temple.
