ALL SOULS DAY and CANDLES

Friday, November 2nd, is the Feast of All Souls, the day we remember our dead. Three traditional All Souls Day Masses will be offered: 7:30am (EN), 12:00 noon (EN) and 7:00pm (LT). Following the evening Mass we will have the traditional Lithuanian All Souls procession and prayers for the dead. We invite the families who have lost a loved one since last November 2nd, to participate in the commemoration. An All Souls Day envelope is included with the offering envelopes with space to include the names of the dead you want to be remembered in the Masses.
In addition, we have ALL SOULS DAY CANDLES, which can be inscribed with the name of the deceased you want remembered. These candles will burn for 5 days beginning on November 2nd. The donation for each All Souls Day candle is $5. For your convenience, candle request envelopes can be found at the church entrances. We invite everyone to participate.

PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY

On October 28th Catholics will celebrate Priesthood Sunday, a day set aside to celebrate the importance of the gift of priesthood in the life of the Church and for us to reflect on the ministry that our priests share with us - when we gather at the Table of the Lord, and when we call on them in our times of need. Consider sharing a personal note or a card of thanks with them. We pray that our young people will be inspired by the ministry and witness of our priests and that their hearts be open to hearing and responding to God’s call. More information on priesthood can be found at www.clevelandcatholicpriesthood.com

Over the past several weeks I have placed an announcement in the bulletin asking for volunteers to run for a seat on our Parish Pastoral Council. As of today, we have received no applications.

Our Pastoral Council is the most important advisory group I have in the parish. The Pastoral Council advises me on all aspects of parish life, from making up Mass schedules to setting priorities for property repairs and improvements. Every year we elect four members and I appoint one member for a two year term. Two members of the Council must be from the Lithuanian community and two members must be from the non-Lithuanian community. They can be re-elected once, and then are ineligible for one year.

This year, two members are ineligible to run for another term. Also, I was unable to appoint a member last year, as those I approached would not accept the appointment. I am sure that there are at least five members of our parish who would be willing to serve on the council. The application process is easy and application forms are available in the Book Room. We would like all applications to be submitted by Sunday, November 4th.

It is easy to sit back and watch, or to complain and criticize. It takes effort and commitment to become involved in the life of the parish. Being able to make a difference and be involved in Parish Life is a rewarding experience and worth the effort that goes into it. I invitie you to consider serving on the Parish Pastoral Council.

God Bless ! Fr. Joe Bacevice

PLEASE PRAY

We ask you to keep in your prayers the souls of Anthony Ferrando and Augustinas Idzelis who died last week and were buried from our parish. May they have eternal rest in the peace of God’s kingdom.

MISSION SUNDAY

This Sunday is World Mission Sunday, a day all of us are asked to support the missionary efforts of the Church throughout the world. We do this by praying for the success of our missionaries and by contributing to support their work. We invite you to participate in this effort by donating to the Mission Sunday appeal. Please use the envelopes provided for this appeal next weekend.

THANK YOU

Last weekend’s collection for the Diocesan St. Vincent de Paul Blanket Sunday totaled $325. Many needy families and individuals will receive needed winter supplies through SVDP’s Ozanam Centers, Catholic Charities, and other organizations serving the homeless in our metropolitan area. A sincere thanks to all our parishioners for their donations and prayers. If you haven’t had a chance to contribute, you can still donate online at www.svdpcle.org or make a check payable to SVDP. Thank you very much.

PASTORAL COUNCIL

We have begun the nominating process for new members of our Pastoral Council. This year, we will be electing four members to our Pastoral Council for a two year term beginning January 1, 2019. Application forms are available in the Book Room and will be accepted through November 4, 2018. Voting will begin November 18th and conclude December 2nd. Any member of the parish, age 16 and older, with a few exceptions, eligible to run for a seat on the Pastoral Council. We invite you to seriously consider serving on this important advisory body in our Parish.
